"Through this conference we want to analyze the role of pharmaceutical industry both in our health system and training, as in Global Health.
We live in a society where health is becoming a commodity promotion, sale and consumption and where the development of new treatments has medicalized normal life processes such as baldness or menopause, personal and social problems, symptoms and risk factors before disease have become. In turn, lack of access to basic or essential drugs make up the mortality in poor countries where drugs do not exist or are economically unaffordable.
believe that the pharmaceutical industry plays an important role in this situation and we must be active in their analysis, criticism and improvement. This is a sector that contributes more than 90% of continuing education, invest twice as much money on marketing than on research and development and 1% in treatments for diseases of poor countries, becoming one of the industries profitable in the world.
But we, as students, as teachers and health professionals and as citizens, we have our share of responsibility in demanding that the research, production and distribution of medications to respond to real problems of population health, and prescribing and the use is a proven clinical efficacy that contributes to improving global health.
therefore invite you to this conference, to exchange opinions and develop new proposals that enable us to move in this direction.
I hope. "
