Guide to Good Practices for a New Model No pathologizing of Healthcare for People Trans

From the State Network of Trans Identities Despathologization we have published a Guide to Good Practice for Health Care for Trans People in the National Health System of the English State, presented this October as part of the demonstrations that are taking place.

This guide offers a material that can be very useful for generating analytical tools and frameworks reference for the development of alternative protocols and not healthcare pathologizing transgender people , especially in our country but also internationally valid.

We believe that we are facing a reality that walk from the paradigm of the disease to human rights , as will be realized in various documents and reports, such as Yogyakarta Principles - principles the application of international human rights law in relation to sexual orientation and gender identity - (made in 2007), or Report 'Rights Human and Gender Identity "by Thomas Hammarberg - Commissioner for Human Rights Council of Europe - (published 2009).

A Brief Notes on Transsexuality

Transgender people are those who are not recognized in sex and / or gender that has been assigned regardless of any modifications which have started or have received any diagnosis of Gender Identity Disorder.

To all the people we are assigned sex, from which, we assume a genre.

How we build our identity, how we live and sentimental our body, our gender or our gender can not be considered in any case a condition or may be supervised, this construction of identity, medical-psychiatric control. No identity can be considered a mental disorder or a disease.

The only disease is trasfobia is any rejection or fear of trans realities.

actual demands is necessary to trans people. To do this, there has been a "Good Practice Guide" for the National Health System to create health policies to eradicate not pathologizing and guardianships mental processes have to undergo medical transport and get people to ensure free choice over their own body within the context of counseling and informed consent and not from clinical assessments.

Trans people must have a health rights, legal and social issues are not subject to being in a condition not be considered physical or mental illness.

Manifesto Despathologization Network for the State IdentidadesTrans English

October 23, 2010

We resisting!

A year giving arguments to defend our freedom, seeking alternatives, building bridges for dialogue. However, the terrible medical and political machinery is, stigmatization of trans people continues. As if considering our gender identity as something pathological help us, as if our mental health really matters.

The gender identity disorder does not exist. Instead, there is transphobia.

study us, touch us explain what happens to us, we make thousands of tests to find the cause of our terrible disease, we analyzed, hit us, we are raped. They treat us like children and kill us like dogs. By day and by night they hate us we buy.

But they can not with us; still here, breaking the silence and resist violence, the beatings and the words, with rage and pedagogy, weaving a net to keep us afloat. We are here!

of pathologizing discourse has collapsed, we have shot down based on these therapies report every year. There are no valid excuses. There are ideas that can no longer defend themselves.

trans activists around the world, from different continents and cities, we again take to the streets to demand the trans depathologization under the slogan "trans identities are not a disease." We denounce that even today, in the XXI century, trans identities, transsexual, transgender, transvestites are still present as "gender incongruity" or "disorder transvestism" in the recently published draft of DSM-5. We demand the discontinuation of gender identity disorders catalogs of Diseases (DSM and ICD) and fight for the right to decide independently on our own bodies.

depathologization recall that can not imply in any way that trans people lose their health rights. We demand a trans-specific health care public cover.

The right to gender identity and public health coverage of trans people are fundamental human rights and should not be exclusive. Claim the right to legal recognition of the chosen name and gender without the diagnosis and / or medical treatment, hormonal or surgical treatment. No one can decide on the gender identity of another person.

Our demands are clear:

1. Withdrawal of TIG international diagnostic manuals (DSM-future releases V and ICD-11).
2. The abolition of the binary standard treatment for intersex people.
3. Free access to treatments hormone and surgery (without psychiatric supervision.)
4. Public health coverage for gender reassignment process.
5. The fight against transphobia: the work for educational training and social integration and employment of trans people and the visibility and denouncing all forms of social or institutional transphobia.

Statewide, demand the government to take our demands, which has the participation of different groups and trans activists taking into account its plurality and stop making some strange cosmetic maneuver to save face. Last June, the Minister for Equality said publicly that can not be tolerated that is still considered to trans people as sick people. Paradoxically, the Government has not taken any steps to amend the current Law 3 / 2007, commonly known as "Gender Identity", that we still pathologizing.

also demand the withdrawal of the reference to gender in official documents public. It is a fact obsolete, and its presence is not justified in any way an identity, apart from being an obstacle in the daily lives of many trans people.

Finally, we ask the Government to abandon its role colonizer who supervises the LGBT policies in Latin America. From Western countries are still exporting the violent and pathologizing medical discourses, increasing the risk of transphobic violence and threatening identities and gender expression different in different parts of the world.

Our names, our bodies, our lives are just ours.

will continue to resist!
